  Why become a translator?

In India, there is a high demand for translation in regional languages   such as Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.  If one of these languages   is your native language, you don't even need a certificate to prove your skills.

If we need to talk about a foreign language, the data shows that Chinese, French, German and Spanish are the most sought after languages.  An advanced degree in any one of these high-demand languages   can significantly increase your earning potential.
For starters, freelancing is a good way for self-employment but as you gain more experience, we suggest you build your own website and market your work to career sites.  In fact, you can go one step further and start your own translation agency.
  Where to start
To freelance as a translator, start by signing up with websites like Upwork, Freelancer, PeopleBar, where companies post translation projects.  The catch is that you can't decide what you want to charge for each project, but the employer will determine the fee for each project.

You must have a Bachelor's degree or prior experience in your language to sign up with these portals.  In the absence of both, you can take an online course offered by a certified institution or college.
There is no charge for signing up for a freelance portal but they charge a commission of 5 percent to 20 percent on the project.

  Cost to set up
The cost of translating freelance is minimal.  All you need is a good quality computer with a high speed internet connection.  A mid-range laptop can cost you between $ 5 and $ 5, with an Internet connection costing $ 1000 per month.

If you want to build your own website to market your work, it can cost $ 100,000, $ 100,000, and $ 100,000 a year for a one-time investment.
  Earn a living
Fees for translation projects are usually by assignment and not by time.  Web applications translate to $ 900-1000 for proofreading and similar content.  Short interviews are priced at around Rs 1,500 per project and both these projects take a day.
Translating content, press releases and brochures into a website can get you $ 1000-1,200 per page.  Even big projects like translating about 2,2 to 2,2 word lectures and academic papers can cost anywhere between $ 5000-7,000 per project.  These projects may take 2-5 days.

If you specialize in a technical field, you can set your own hours per hour to be more than INR 2,000 or 2,500.  For example, someone with a degree in civil engineering will be the preferred choice for lecture translated training centers, or a real estate agency will hire someone with that skill to translate their brochures.

Note that it takes senior level expertise and you should have a portfolio of work to promote your services.  Also, you need to acquire clients individually to set your own rates and even start your own website.

So to give you average revenue, a translator with intermediate experience who takes 6-7 small and 4 big projects can earn between 30,000-40,000 per month.
  Imperfection

If you do not operate your own website or agency, translating freelance means you have no control over how much you will be paid.  This can sometimes be frustrating because you may even get paid a salary lower than your price.

So we hope you are immersed in self-employment soon in the coming year.  Contact for more business ideas and log on to www.ententerur.com.
